POST 168 JUNIOR EDGES CROWN POINT 3-2 IN SEASON OPENER

Post 168 Baseball kicked off their season last night at Teagle Field in Crown Point where the Junior team beat the Crown Point Junior Team 3-2 in extra innings.  Kyle Scheffel was in complete control, striking out six and allowing only two singles.  "I had decent stuff today, plus having a rubber arm helps, it never gets tired", said Scheffel.  Post 168 had some timely hitting from Steve Traficante, Demetrious Pitsas, Mark Dye and Ray Lopez, who drove in the game-winning run with a sacrafice fly to center field.  Pitsas scored the winning run after hitting a sharp single to center to lead off the 8th inning.  He advanced to second when Matt Skura laid down a textbook bunt.  Pitsas took third on an infield error which set the stage for Lopez's heroics.  Matt Philbin closed out the final two in innings for Post 168, allowing just one run.  After the game many of the players expressed concern about the potential return of coach Sherman who was mysteriously absent from this very important opening day battle.  Several players were heard commenting, “I like this new coach better, maybe Coach Sherman will break another fingernail and he won't make the next game too”.   Interim manager Kevin Furman refused comment for this story.  Coaches Traficante and DeRolf did not return our phone call, which seems to be a disturbing new trend among mediocre coaches in the area , but at least they were there .  Post 168 now 1-0 faces Hobart Post 54 next on Thursday June 7 th at Hobart City Park.
